When was the last time you went on a picnic? It seems that the art of going on a picnic for a date has been lost over the years unless you live in a major city with a big park nearby. Sadly, picnics are very underrated as a date idea when in reality they are fun, budget friendly, and casual. Use these eight tips to bring this old-school date idea back to life with your partner.
1. Check the Weather
A great picnic requires great weather. The last thing you want is to be caught in a rain storm or be sitting outside for hours on an unbearably muggy day. Picnic dates are better planned at the last minute or a few days before for this reason.
2. Find a Quiet Spot
As you want to enjoy your time with your partner, try to find a quiet location around the park where there is less foot traffic. Under a tree by the edge of the park, for example can be the perfect spot plus it provides some necessary shade on sunny days.
3. Pack Necessary Sprays
Be sure to pack your sunscreen and bug spray. Nothing ruins a picnic faster than getting a sunburn or countless bug bites. Be sure to pack other necessities as well like a large blanket to lay/sit on.
4.Pack Beverages With Ice
You likely want to enjoy your beverages cold. Pack them with ice within your picnic basket. An alternative option is to freeze a few water bottles and use those to keep other beverages chilled. Try to guestimate how many beverages you will need for the afternoon. You don’t want to bog down your basket by bringing more beverages than you need.
5. Keep Food Snack Style
When packing for a picnic, think about simple, easy, mess-free snacks. This could be deli wraps, pre-popped popcorn, sliced fruits with dip, and cheese and crackers. You want to keep it simple but enjoyable. It also helps to keep in mind that these items will be in warmer air for longer periods of time so do not pack something that might melt or spoil quickly.
6. Turn Off Cell Phones
Picnics make a great date because they allow you to connect with your partner. Turn off your cell phones and simply enjoy talking to each other and laughing like children again.
7. Plan an Activity
Personally, I feel you simply cannot have a proper picnic without flying a kite. But any activity will do! From sitting and enjoying the crosswords to watching the clouds go by to taking a short hike to nearby falls. If possible, plan an activity around your picnic.
8. Go in the Evening
If you are lucky enough to live in an area that sponsors movies in the park at night, take advantage of that. An evening picnic is just as much fun especially when you can also check out the stars or catch fire flies.
Picnic dates are the best way to help any adult feel like a kid again. You get to relax and enjoy the simple pleasure that nature and love have to bring you. Even if it is just for a few hours, it is the chance to step away from the hustle and bustle of our day to day lives.
