You know how the song goes – Oh the weather outside is frightful, but inside it’s so delightful – right? We have entered into the time of year where most of the country is facing rain, sleet, and snow. The chilly temperatures and moody weather make us want to hibernate inside until we can get back to enjoying those outdoor festivals, concerts, and walks in the park that we enjoy with our sweetie. Just because you are stuck inside doesn’t mean you have to be bored out of your mind. After all, how many times can you re-watch your favorite television series on Netflix? To ease your cabin fever and winter blues, here are four not so lame date ideas to try.
1. Upcycle a Piece of Furniture
Do you have a garage or work space that you can utilize for a project? Take a day or two to upcycle an old piece of furniture lying around your house. Turning even drab Ikea bookshelves into something bright and fun can be an affordable way to have fun indoors. All you need is a few cans of spray paint and a little creativity. Check out your favorite DIY site or Pinterest for more ideas on how to turn drab to fab.
2. Wine and Paint
Do you remember that popular painting show with Bob Ross and his “Happy Little Trees”? He showed viewers how to easily paint landscape pictures in a few steps and no real need for an artistic ability. You can stream his videos and many other simple painting series from YouTube. Lay out some paper, pick up some canvas and paints, and pour a few glasses of wine to get started creating a little piece of art for you home.
3. Themed Movie Marathon
Whether you love the Twilight Series or Batman, a themed movie marathon can be fun for both of you. Whip up some popcorn, snuggle on the couch under some blankets, and press play on your favorite movie. You can even keep dinner a breeze by tossing something easy in the slow cooker like potatoes and a chicken roast.
4. Game Night
Got some friends who are feeling the winter blues too? Invite them over for an old fashioned game night – no phones allowed. Warm up some Hot Toddies and serve your favorite dips and snacks as you laugh your way through an evening of Cards Against Humanity, Headbandz for Adults, and any other game you have collecting dust on a shelf.
